Starting Vidalia Onions at Dixondale Farms

Did you know that we give many Vidalia onions their start from seed at Dixondale Farms? We grow Yellow Granex from seed then ship the transplants to the Vidalia growing region in Georgia where they are finished as sweet Vidalia onions.
Recently Jason Herndon of Herndon Farms came to check on his onions plants for his Vidalia onion crop.

Dixondale Farms has grown transplants for Vidalia farmers for many years. Plants were originally shipped by railcar in the 1940s and 1950s and are now shipped by truckload. While many Vidalia farmers have moved to growing their own plants in seed beds, we do still grow fields for them each season.
